Sense of Pride and Patriotism amongst the youth in India

‘Our country is marred by corruption’

‘The system is too weak to get rid of corruption and malpractices’

‘Country’s education system is very incapable and this place holds no future for the youth’

These are some of the statements that we often make in our peer group and amongst our friends. Normally, we do so because we think we care for our country and don’t feel good about the fact that the system is plagued by malice called corruption and the society is caught under many social taboos.

But, have we ever introspected to find out what personal contribution we are making to free our nation from malicious political loopholes; well for most of us, the answer to this is ‘Absolutely Nothing’.

Pride and Patrioyism in India Flag

By simply castigating the system and by finding loopholes here and there, we cannot call ourselves patriotic. There will always be glitches in any country’s system but sitting comfortably at your home while criticizing it over a cup of coffee is no solution. As a common man, one shouldn’t sit back and assume that he/she cannot bring any change.

As rightly said, one need to be a part of any system in order to change the system! To do so, he/she needs to be a quintessential person, in order to set an example for others; Join army, navy, administrative services or NGOs atleast, to get yourself directly involved in the development of country.

If the youth of any nation is not motivated enough to work for its betterment then the country’s condition will worsen, if well learned and educated people will refrain from taking part in the key political decisions of a country then it can never be free from the proponents of corruption and nepotism.

Unfortunately, Politics is one such stream that does not require a minimal level of education and majority of the capable and well educated people refrain from getting into the political mess. This leaves the command of the country in the hands of some undeserving folks endowed with political legacy. As a result, they continue to enjoy the privileges of ruling their respective states. So, in a way, we are giving the responsibility to take decisions for us, in the hands of those people whom we cannot trust in terms of their capability and background. Post that, all we are left to do is criticizing, cribbing and expressing dissatisfaction with the way things are managed.

Having said that, I do not opine that every political leader is incapable and corrupt; we have or had leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee , Lal Bahadur Shastri , Sushma Swaraj, Manohar Parrikar and our current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These people have made significant contribution to change the state of affairs in our country; however, corrupt politicians are no less in number.

If we really feel that the spirit of patriotism is alive somewhere at the bottom of our hearts then it is time we take a step to bring about a breakthrough change in the way things are run in this dystopian society.

Remember a dialogue from a well acclaimed movie Rang De Basanti – Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota, use perfect banaana padta hai (No country is perfect, it needs to be made perfect through constant efforts). It completely resonates with the ideology of patriotism highlighted here.

Hope you will agree!
