Honda WR-V

Honda is the latest entrant in the compact SUV segment with their new offering, WR-V. The crossover is based on Honda Jazz premium hatchback but looks much bigger and much more well-built than the Jazz. The sub 4-metre SUV gets bolder creases and looks quite butch.

The WR-V is powered by 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre Earth Dreams engine that churns out 100 Bhp.

The WR-V diesel is the most efficient affordable SUV in India with a maximum mileage of 25.5 km/l. The petrol one returns a maximum mileage of 17.5 km/l. WR-V also comes with a host of safety features like dual SRS airbags, ABS and intelligent pedals and standard.

Maruti entered the compact SUV market bit late with the Vitara Brezza. The compact SUV goes against the likes of Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV 300. Maruti Vitara Brezza is the best-selling compact SUV in the market, and it comes in six variants. Maruti also offers a lot of dealership level customisation on the Brezza. The Brezza is only powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum power of 89 Bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. It is the second best fuel efficient SUV and returns 24.3 km per litre.

Ford EcoSport

Ford EcoSport kickstarted the compact SUV storm in India in 2013. Even though many competitors have been launched in the market, the EcoSport has remained a steady seller in the market. Ford EcoSport comes powered by three engine options. There is 1.5-litre petrol that returns a maximum fuel efficiency of 18.88 km/l. There is one 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine that returns 15.85 km/l. However, the most efficient engine of the three is the turbo diesel 1.5-litre engine that returns 22.27 km/l.

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta is not a sub 4 metre SUV but yet it is one of the top selling SUVs in India. The good looking SUV comes with a host of features. Hyundai also has a wide range of options for the customers. There is 1.6-litre petrol that churns a maximum of 121.3 Bhp, 1.6-litre diesel producing 126.2 Bhp and 1.4-litre diesel that produces a maximum of 88.7 Bhp.

The 1.6-litre engine options come with both manual and automatic. The petrol version returns a maximum of 15.29 km/l. The 1.6-litre diesel engine returns 19.67 km/l. The highest of all is the 1.4-litre diesel engine that returns 21.38 km/l, making it fourth highest fuel efficient SUV in India.

Honda powers the BR-V with 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that returns 15.4 km/l and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that returns a maximum of 21.9 km/l.
