The Disposable men

We see men dying around us and it does not shake us that much as the death of a woman or issue of a woman . We are somehow made to think only about women and their part . Even media does not highlight the dying men . The outrage about Nirbhaya made government to amend law while Capt Saurav Kaliya went unnoticed . Similarly there is no protest against brutal killing of Rahul Singh .

Who was Rahul Singh ? He was a simple 22 year old young man from Bihar who came to Delhi NCR for job . As Teej approached he was going to Bihar to meet his  newly wedded wife who is pregnant too . He was travelling in chambal express train where railway protection force squad was extorting money . He protested and asked them not to do it and made a video of it . RAF squad consisted of 8 members including 3 women . This RAF squad beaten him up brutally , even made him made spit and lick . His backbone was broken and then he was thrown out on railway tracks . Eye witnesses say he was pleading for mercy saying his young wife is pregnant but the squad did not stop . People tried to intervene but they were threatened . Now it was reported in media carelessly some made  a story that Rahul Singh was travelling without ticket so was thrown out , another story said Rahul Singh was involved in eve teasing so was beaten up . Now even if he was travelling without ticket or eve teasing is it alright to throw a man out of moving train ? Some friends and well – wishers stood up against such allegations on social media and finally an FIR was lodged .

Why it was so easy to believe that Rahul Singh was at fault ? We have seen , this has happened earlier too that on mere accusations mob has lynched men . And no voice is raised against it because the person who died had a wrong gender , A Man . Three years back in Assam a man was lynched by mob on mere accusations of rape which were proved wrong after some time . Same incident happened in Bangaluru too , again there was no protest because a man died . It is easy to blame a man and get him killed  , so it was tried with Late Rahul Singh too . There is no news on mainstream media about this man because dying men does not give TRP . Why death of a man does not bother us ? We are made to believe that men are born to protect and provide . Even men believe in this as they keep doing it , in spite of being harassed . The martyrs are given heroic respect and awards . Men believe that it is heroic to die for people . nation and it’s welfare . We too believe that a man is not man enough if he is not ready to protect and provide . So , when a man dies we have only two emotions pride or hate . If he did something brave we feel proud and if he died just like that we do not feel anything or if he died with allegations we hate him . In fact , we search excuses when a man dies like ,

“Oh he was drunk , or oh he was not careful enough , or oh he was too fearless this was bound to happen .“

If a woman dies we search a man to blame because we feel Women can do no harm . That is the whole theory behind everything special for women , seats, buses, reservations etc .So basically men are disposable . Example of male disposability can be understood like this , if you compare you will notice that more men die than women , still we talk only about crime against women . More men die because more men are doing hazardous jobs and risking their lives . Another example is Cancer , It is a deadly disease but breast  cancer is given more importance than prostate cancer .  A man lying dead on railway track did not bother people but a woman in same position will make us furious . A few days back there was a twitter hashtag trending ,” meri raat meri sadak “ ( my night my road ) . It was to make roads safe for women , did we just assume that roads are safe for men and only women are in danger ? Whatever happened to Rahul Singh can happen to any man , anytime so how are men safe ? I am yet to see a twitter campaign for Rahul Singh saying ,”mera railway track , meri raat “ ( my railway track by night ). He was one of the disposable men who are born to die so how does it matter to anyone ?

Some friends well – wishers started an online petition to create pressure on government . There is not a single arrest made in this case till now . Media was filled with Dera and Mumbai flood news while Rahul Singh was ignored . The dipsobale men like Rahul are ignored everyday while everything is being made safe for women . I am sure people will think on reading this that he must have done something that is why things went this far . The same heart which cries for a woman becomes cruel for a man . Because we deeply feel inside our hearts that men are not important to be discussed . In the holy name of equality we are making our men vulnerable . If we are serious about making a change lets change things for everyone . Remember there were  three women in RAF squad who killed Rahul Singh . Those women should not be spared just because of their gender . In the words of Martin Luther kIng ,” Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere .”
