The eight of August is upon us. The day football fans from all over the globe have been eagerly waiting for after a summer bereft of the game they love and adore. Football’s back. The English Premier League is back!

After the late night viewing of the Copa America matches to the erratic timings of the many Preseason games, the EPL has returned, and weekends will be back to being full of footballing goodness!

A summer where all the teams have strengthened and some high profile transfers – Schweinsteiger to Manchester United, Di Maria leaving the Red Devils, Petr Cech moving from the Blue half of London to the Red half, there’s been a lot of activity in the transfer market and its about to kick off in all glory today!

Having beaten Chelsea and José in the Community Shield, Arsène Wenger’s boys in Red and White look like they mean some serious business. Having stolen the Chelsea legend Petr Cech from under José’s nose, the Gunners finally have a goalkeeper whose presence screams, ‘You Shall Not Pass’, and its shown in their many assured preseason performances as well. If Le Professor can keep all his men fit and firing then this season may just see the Gunners lift the Premier League trophy for the first time after the Invincibles created history.

Chelsea still look the real deal despite having lost their legendary goalkeeper, since Thibaut Courtois was their first choice last season anyway. José’s eyes will firmly be on silverware – most notably on the Champions League. The only problem to their aspirations is that their main striker Diego Costa is already injured, and a couple more injuries will leave the squad looking threadbare and down to its bones. Can the Blues cope with the small squad and get on till the finish line? Only time will tell.

Manchester United have had an up and down summer transfer window – though they’re preseason victory against Barcelona – albeit a Barcelona bereft of the services of Messi and Neymar – will have left them cautiously optimistic.  The quickfire signings of Dutch wonderkid Depay, Italian national team player Darmian, German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, and the midfield enforced Morgan Schniederlin gave them enough time to settle into the squad, but the big name departure of Angel Di Maria again would’ve left a bitter taste in the mouths of United fans. Last season was one of transition. This one will be Van Gaal’s true test.

Despite having an aging squad ridden with frequent injuries and the sale of a few stalwart players, Manchester City still have players capable of changing any game. With the procurement of Raheem Sterling for a whooping 45(+4) million pounds, they’ve added more pace to their already fast attack as well as invested in their future. If the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Yaya Toure can stay fit and replicate their form of season before last, then they’ll be up there fighting for the title as has been the norm in the past few years.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Southampton will also be planning to break into the top four after last seasons exploits, but its going to be far from easy.

There’s not a lot separating the top 6-7 sides and any team can beat the other on their day…and that is why; this is the best league in the world.

Wear your club colours and tune in to the Premier League as it kicks of today!
