What After College?

Somehow, as soon as college is about to end we start mentally hyperventilating and undergo mini anxiety attacks trying to figure out ‘What Next?’. There are a variety of options and still the world seems to be coming to an end for us, mostly because we are clueless about these options and how to go about them.

What after college
Thinking about the future

Often, we are misguided into thinking that there is only a certain course or pathway set out for us which we must follow but that is not the case. We are allowed to make mistakes and to change our minds about what we want. It takes a little more time but it is definitely not impossible. Life after college is scary and exciting and challenging but it is nothing that you can’t handle. All you need is a little belief that you will be able to take on whatever lies ahead. That, and a few tips!

Go ahead for a Masters degree

While you might think that you aren’t cut out for any more studying, you would be surprised to find out that specialising in a particular field attracts you way more than studying broader aspects of the same subject. By the end of it, not only will you have higher academic qualification but also knowledge and research which would be an asset at all times.

Find a job that you’ll enjoy

You needn’t jump straight into the mortifying corporate sector after college. You can take it slow and find a job that you’ll actually enjoy. It might pay less but it will get you settled in for a job routine. For example, if you are literature graduate, instead of finding PR or journalism jobs, try working for a bookshop. Not only will you have fun, you will also have to show something for yourself in your résumé.

Intern abroad

You would be surprised to know how many number of paid international internships there are available. All you need to do is apply. These may be for short intervals but they will give you an opportunity to travel and work in a global workspace – an opportunity that is rare to come by.

Become an entrepreneur

More often than not, we hate working for others. So, the best solution to that is to work for yourself. Sit down, think of an idea and create a start-up. It’s easier said than done but the sheer joy of creating something from scratch with your own sweat and blood is an experience that you will not get anywhere else. And who is to say, if you get it right, you might just make it big

Take an year Gap

Contrary to what everyone suggests, it’s okay to get into life’s rat race a year late. If you somehow cannot decide what to do with your life after college, just simply take a break. Use that year to explore hobbies, travel or to just take a breather.

The end of college can be overwhelming but is definitely not the end of the world. Instead, it is a new chapter in your life that you are allowed to write by yourself. So, make the most out of it.
