As many as 2,000 ancient manuscripts have been found in Chhattisgarh with the help of locals.

In accordance with the first phase of work under the survey conducted by the National Mission for Manuscripts, around 2,000 manuscripts have been collected from various archaeological and remote sites in Chhattisgarh, they said.
These manuscripts (written mostly on palm leaves and paper) have been indexed and numbered, official of the State Culture and Archeology Department said.
These manuscripts contain texts in Sanskrit, Oriya and Devnagiri with scriptures
related to ancient medicine and Astrology which will help to provide an insight into the culture of this tribal state, they added.
Most of the manuscripts during the survey have been found from Mahasamund region of Chhattisgarh, they said. Many other have been collected from tribal-dominated districts of Kanker, Bastar, Raigarh, Sarguja and Jashpur, they further added.
During the second phase of this survey, study would be conducted relating to the subject matter and the period (to which the manuscript belongs), officials added.
