The death of the musical genius of Assam's balladeer has left the entire world weeping.Bhupen Hazarika,the 'bard of Brahmaputra' is the self proclaimed "jajabor" (wanderer)who weaved magic out of traditional Assamese music.This musical genius has inspired millions across generations with the power and passion of his voice in his songs like Dil hoom hoom kare and O Ganga behti ho.The Dadasaheb Phalke award winner has not only limited his contribution to his native Assamese,but has also composed, wrote and sang for numerous Bengali and Hindi films.Bhupen da used music as an instrument for social change.Known for writing bold lyrics with themes of communal amity, universal justice and empathy and the songs sung by him are marked by humanity and universal brotherhood.A tribute to this great human and his contributions can not be paid by writing a few words.His life was the golden age for Assam.
Today the entire world weeps at his absence.Of course the death of this great personality has incurred the world with a huge loss specially the Assamese culture.Let us all contribute in keeping the lyrics of Bhupen da alive even after his death....let his soul reside in Assamese culture.
