Amarkantak is also known as 'Theerthraj', is a major pilgrimage destination of India. It is situated in the Anuppur District of Madhya Pradesh. It is the meeting point of the Vindhyas and the Satpuras and this makes it an amazingly beautiful destination even for the nature lovers. Amarkantak is also the origin of the Narmada River, Johilla River and Son River and is enclosed by hills and dense forest making it a coveted destination of the adventure enthusiasts. The place finds its mention in the Puranas and this makes it a major pilgrimage destination. Some of the major places of attraction include Radha Krishna Temple, Shri Ram Janki Temple and Lord Shiva Temple. The place is famous for ancient temples at Narmadakund which is the place of origin of the Narmada River.
