Amarnath is one of the major and most honored Hindu Pilgrimage destinations of India, situated at an altitude of 4175 m above sea level. The place is famous for a the Shivling made of ice and it is situated in the Great Himalayas. According to mythology, the place got its name as Amarnath which is associated with the immortality of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva was telling the story of immortality to Parvati and this is how the place gained religious importance. The cave remains open for pilgrimage during between May and September , however, the most people visit it in the months of July and August.
