Balasore, known as ‘city of sand’ is situated in the coastal line of Bay of Bengal in the Balasore district of Orissa. The city is known for its large coastal area, forests and mines. The city is the center for Indian Ballistic Missile Defence Program’s test range.Two major rivers flows through the city, which include the Budhabalanga and Subarnarekha from west to east to confluence in the Bay of Bengal. The city was under the Danish rule until the British invaded the city. The major attractions of the place include the Chandipur Beach, Budhabalanga River, the Mahagiri Mountain, The Bhujakhia Pir, Biranchinarayan Temple, Palia, AstaDurga Temple and Bhudhar Chandi, etc.
