Barpeta is a town in the district of Barpeta in Assam and is an emerging commercial hub of Assam. Barpeta is not only a popular town for being an emerging commercial hub but the places holds religious significance. The town is a major pilgrimage destination of Assam and is a center of the Vaishnava religion preached by Shankardev. The satras, temples and mosques that are featured by the town attracts the tourists from all over the globe. The town is also well-known for its unique and rich culture and is the center of Vaishnava culture of Assam. Shankardev and his disciple Madhavdev were the savior of Assam and united the people of the state by introducing the "Eka Sarana Dharma". He not only introduced this religion but also made the Assamese culture rich by introducing the Satriya Dance form, Bargeet, Ankia Nat, Bhauna etc, which are now renowned all over the world and Barpeta was a the place where he started off with his work. This makes this beautiful town of Assam a major pilgrimage destination of the state.
