Bengali Weddings

Bengalis are known for their rich culture and the way they enjoy every moment of their lives. Bengali marriages are celebrated with great zeal and colour and are enjoyed by everyone. Each Bengali wedding, whether as simple one or a lavish one, is celebrated with same enthusiasm and same traditional rituals are strictly followed. There are many rituals that are followed starting from the pre-wedding rituals to post wedding rituals. There are a number of ceremonies that are being performed before tying the nuptial knot from various pujas, haldhi etc. The post wedding ceremonies goes on for two days. Bengali weddings offer a great delight.

One of the pre-wedding rituals is turmeric ceremony which takes place very much like any other hindu wedding. Another event which i would like to add is Basur raat where the friends of bride and groom stay awake all night and later on move to groom's home on the next day. The way the bride and grooms are dressed up and the flavors added in the decoration of wedding arena is what distinguishes a bengali wedding with any other hindu wedding.
