LAKSHAMI-NARAYAN Mandir also known Birla Mandir is not part of the New Delhi. Lutyens designed.It is essentially a Hindu temple,which came up alongside with New Delhi.Therefore,it has been variants with it. Popularly known as the Birla Mandir,it is the first of the temples built across the country by the industrialist family of Birlas.Located just off Cannaught Place ,on Mandir Marg, it is dedicated to Lord Vishnu,the second of the Hindu Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer,and his consort Lakshmi,the Goddess of wealth.
Nagara Architecture: The temple is built in the Nagara style of architecture interspersed with modern influences.The entire temple is adorned with relief carvings,depicting the scenes from mythology.One hundred one skiiled Pandits from Banaras,headed by Acharya (master) Vishwanath Shastri,carved the idols of the temple.One clan find a number of friezes and artistic sculptures add to the aesthetic beauty of this temple above the sanctum sanctum soars 160 feet high.The temple is situated on a high plinth and its faces to the east. It leads to a platform from where a few more steps lead to sanctum sanctum.This chamber is dedicated to Lord Narayan (Vishnu)and goddess Lakshmi.There are other small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Hanuman.
