After the Great Depression and World War II, many economists felt the need to come up with solutions that solve the grave condition of the Third World countries. They felt it was necessary to define development in a new way – with social, economic and political aspects in mind. Since then there has been the emergence of this course and most of the European countries were the first to design a course around this. Unfortunately, countries like India which need it the most have been lackadaisical in adopting this and till today not many are aware of such courses. This is partly because of our ignorance towards Humanities. A career in this field will not only be a personal boost for those who aspire to become development policymakers or social scientists or social activists but also mean a systematic contribution in the government system.
