Rajendra Prasad, the first president of India was a great political leader and social reformer. He was born at Chapra village in state Bihar on 3rd December 1884. His father was a property owner and great scholar. The first school of Rajendra was district school Chapra, where head teacher Shri C. R chaudhury greatly recognized his abilities. Rajendra passed a renowned entrance examination of district school of Patna. He also secured first division in the examination of Calcutta university, at that time, the jurisdiction of the university extended from state Bengal and state Bihar to country Burma including state Assam, state Orissa. After sometime, Rajendra came to city of Calcutta and greatly joined the renowned presidency college and he studied modern science with Dr. PC Ray and Dr. JC Bose as well as humanities. He got his bachelor degree in English (honors) in the year of 1906. He was also granted Eshan scholarship for securing great position in history. However next year, Rajendra passed master in arts in English language as well as in the year of 1910, he also took a law degree and joined the renowned bar of High court Calcutta. When the honourable high court Patna was set up in the year of 1917, Rajendra moved his law practice to Patna court. Moreover, from his Calcutta student days, he was greatly influenced by Dawn Society of S. Mukherjee. Rajendra also participated as an active volunteer at popular Calcutta session of national congress in the year of 1906 and deeply heard the speeches of great Indian leaders such as Gokhale, S. Banerjee and other leaders. However in the year of 1917, he met Mahatma Gandhi when Champaran agrarian problem. He followed the western culture but also represented the Indian culture. Life of Rajendra Prasad symbolized the significance of culture and tradition through which he passed his entire life.
He was greatly inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and joined the national congress just after the renowned movement of Satyagraha. Soon after, he became the Bihar congress’ president in the year of 1920. After sometime, he was elected as congress party’s General Secretary. In the year of 1930, he joined popular movement of civil disobedience and had to suffer arrest as well as imprisonment. Rajendra also did a great job in collecting relief fund for the divested by Earthquake of Bihar state in the year of 1934. His sincerity, devotion and dignity had by so impressed many senior party leaders that in the year of 1934, Rajendra was finally elected as a resident of renowned national Congress in party’s Bombay session. However, the time ahead was full of great internal dissensions in national congress between the rising socialists and old guards popular rightists led by Subash C. Bose and J.awaharlal. However, S. Bose was greatly elected as a president of national congress second time. He was chosen against Mahatma’s own wishes in the year of 1939. In fact, SC Bose had to resign from the post shortly. However, Rajendra who was a devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi elected as a president of congress party in the year of 1939 at Calcutta sessions. He did his job without seeking gratitude. However, circumstances had been changed very fast when second world war started.
Mahatma Gandhi was highly disappointed with the attitude of British government. Nevertheless, a Cripps mission had been sent from England to sort out the problem but failed to do so. In fact, the British proposals were strictly rejected and Mahatma Gandhi showed a revolutionary slogan the famous, quit India movement. However, after the raising of Quit India movement, most of the important leaders were shortly arrested including renowned Rajendra Prasad and all these leaders were sent to jail. Rajendra Prasad became food minister in popular interim coalition Indian government during the year of 1945 to 47. However, after independence, Rajendra was the only choice for the reputed chair of awaiting constituent assembly. In the year of 1950, when the new Indian constitution was initiated, Rajendra Prasad was elected as the very first president of the country. He held the renowned office of Indian president for two times around 1962. Rajendra Prasad was a great politician who changed the face of republic of India. He knew that how to balance between president house and cabinet. After taking the retirement, he moved to Sadakat Ashram area in state Bihar. On 28th of February 1963, he breathed his last after a short illness.
