Electronic Voting Machines - EVMs are banned in Japan because they can be tampered with. In fact, our Home Minister P. Chidambaram has been accused of misusing them. Even an election watch-dog and an NGO from Hyderabad had demonstrated 'tampering' of EVMs and claimed that these Electronic Machines can be easily manipulated. He had demonstrated in the public that EVM’s can be tampered.

Whats your take on it ? Should Electronic Voting Machines be banned ? Should ballot paper voting be used again ?

Tampering of EVMs have become common in India as it is very easy to be tampered. Ballot paper seems to be far better than EVMs. It is no doubt very time consuming but provides more accurate results than those electronic device as these papers cannot be totally tampered. A more advanced and a safer technique which cannot be tampered should be found out and yes, EVMs should be banned.

In my view, both EVM and Ballot papers can both be equally effective as well as ineffective in deciding the results of the election. It is the politicians who tampers the EVMs and even use of ballot papers in not safe and it can also be tampered in the same manner. However, ballot papers are to a certain extent better than EVMs.
