Bengal has people with people with vivid racial, regional and cultural origins, and the impact of this diversity is easily tangible in this state but still the influence of Bengali culture always keep the residents overwhelmed. The people are quite lively and full of high spirit, spirit to live, love and relish good food and cuisines. Bengalis are highly intellectual and literate they are famous for having a keen interest in Literature, music and sports like Football. Bengali culture is a perfect blend of traditionalism and contemporary beliefs and this is what probably makes Bengal a unique state of India.


Human Race
Since long due to an access through the sea, West Bengal has been an entry gate of India and that is why an inter-racial people especially five distinct human races are the inhabitants of this state. These five different human races have become so well-mingled that it is almost impossible to find of the atypical race of the Bengali population.

Religion
the population is mainly consists of the Hindus and Muslims and other minority religions being practiced in the West Bengal are Sikhism, Buddhism, Christianity and Jainism. There is a persistent harmony among the citizens of this state inspire of so much of religious diversity. The people are filled with festive spirit and Durga Pujo is a great example of that good spirit in them. This festival is celebrated by all the inhabitants of Bengal and makes them united to spread peace and happiness among all.

Literacy
The literacy rate of West Bengal is 69.72 % and the primary education to the rural and municipal areas is given free of cost. Most importantly the education for girls is completely free of cost till the VIII class.

Main Occupation
Agriculture is the major occupation of the people of West Bengal. The population consists of many people coming from the farming field, cultivators and bonded labourers. A huge number of people are also involved in working in factories and industries there are more than 10,000 registered factories in West Bengal. Industries of tea, sugar, chemicals and fertilizers are quite established in this area which provided good opportunities of employment to many people. Banking and education sector are also developed in West Bengal.

Attire
the attires of West Bengal have gone through many modifications since the urbanization has taken place, in the urban areas people are now switching over to western attires whereas in the rural areas men still do prefer to wear the traditional dress; dhoti and kurta and women wear sari. But during the festivals or special occasions everyone does prefer to wear only traditional attires.

Food Habits
Bengali cuisines are tasty and interesting, the staple food of Bengal is rice and fish. A huge variety of fishes is available and the ways to prepare that are also unique. Mustard oil is highly consumed in West Bengal, the five spices known as panchforan in Bengal are also used exclusively in the cuisines to make them tasty and to give them distinct aroma. Sweets are also an attractive part of the Bengali cuisine, sweets like chamcham, pantua, pitha, roshogolla, shondesh are mouth-watering and very popular.
