Guru Teg Bahadur Punya Divas is an auspicious Sikh festival, which is celebrated to commemorate the martyrdom day of the Ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur.

About Guru Teg Bahadur
Guru Teg Bahadur was born on 1 April 1621 to the sixth Guru Hargobind , who was the 6th Sikh Guru and his wife Nanaki at Amritsar. He was the youngest of the five sons and was names as Tyaga Mal. He was brought up in a stringent Sikh culture and he got trained in martial arts, horsemanship, archery as well as in old classics. In the guidance of his father, he became quite famous and his owing to his mastery in martial arts, he was named Bahadur. Later, he became the 9th Sikh Guru and when he returned to return to Eastern Punjab, he settled down at Anandpur. His followers started to denote him as the "Sacha Badshah" (True King). Guru Sahib's sacrifice cannot be compared and owing to his bravery, the Mughal officials such as Nur Muhammad Khan of Rupnagar, Dilawar Khan the Faujdar of Sirhind and Wazir Khan had him arrested and he was taken to Delhi and put to death by Aurangzeb in 1675. However, when Aurangzeb was questioned by a crowd of prisoners regarding the reasons for the execution, the Mughal Emperor was unable to explain the reason for the order of the penalty.

He was well known for his bravery and skills in martial arts. This day is celebrated to commemorate the martyrdom of a great leader, who was the 9th Sikh Guru.
