How safe is Jammu and Kashmir?

I was wondering that how safe the places like jammu and Kashmir as well as Srinagar? I want to visit these places but I am afraid that these are terrorist prone places and something might happen .. Please share your views.
 
Though Jammu and Kashmir is a beautiful place to visit and government get a huge revenue as it is the most popular tourist place but is it safe? Yes to some extent it is safe. You will find tight security at the places which are most visited and tourists attraction. Jammu is quite safe as the main holy place called Vaishno Devi is very near to this place and thousands of people around the world visit this place and they have to travel through jammu to reach katra.
 
Thanks for sharing the information with us. Now i come to know that jammu and kashmir is a safe place to visit. This is a very beautiful place and I always wanted to visit this place but due to the fear factor i usually avoided. Now i can go without fear as when people around the world can go then why can't I.
 
Jammu and Kashmir are just like any other places in India and one need not worry much about the safety concerns. Kashmir is thronged by huge crowds every year to cherish its beauty and ambiance it serves. So is the case with Jammu which is traveled by many in order to reach the Holy places like Vaishno Devi.
 
I think jammu and kashmir both are safe when it comes to tourists point of view. Since my childhood I dreamt of visiting Jammu and Kashmir at least once in my lifetime. But like everyone I am afraid of visiting this place due to the terrorist activity that usually happens at this state. But after reading these posts I realized no tourist place is ever safe. So, I decided whatever happens desires shouldn't fade under fear. I am sure Indian government is most particular on tourist security as it generates higher revenues for the government.
