There has been food shortage in India over a period of time and it is estimated that the shortage would grow owing to the rising population and declining fertility of the soil. According to an ICAR report, the yield of rice would fall down by 15-42% and that of wheat by around 34% due to rising drought, salinity and submergence of fertile lands.
