With the ever growing craze and madness for FIFA world Cup, it is hard for Indians to not fall for it. Although India has not yet qualified even for the competition once, the zeal does not seem to fade off. In India where Cricket has already set its standards, it is now the game of football that seems most tempting and still untouched. And no matter how difficult and impossible it may look as of now, every Indian wants Team India to qualify and win the football world cup tournament. Especially with the huge triumph of ICC world Cup 2011, the determination and confidence seems to be growing.
However, this is just for the public, Veteran and senior sportsmen still believe that Indian Football is quite at distance from even making an entry in the tournament. Especially with giants like Argentina, Brazil, Spain, England and more, it seems quite impossible for the team India to make it to the Finale.
Indian football team and FIFA
Readers, first of all you must know that India does have a certified Football team that runs under All India Football Federation. The team is a member of the Asian Football Confederation, as well as All India Football Federation got affiliated to FIFA in 1948. However that is just on the records. Unfortunately, Indian football team ranks 133rd in the world. It has never even qualified for the world cup and does not seem too promising even now.
Naturally, for a country like India, the champion of cricket in the entire world, gulping down the fact that it does not even have a FIFA qualified team is quite appalling. Football should be encouraged in India. Various debates and discussions have held from time to time to see why India lags behind when it come to Football, which is such a major buzz in the entire world. Unfortunately, without any solid, concrete reasons, the discussions always end up with one conclusion that India is still to take Football seriously.
Facts on Indian Football Team & Sports in India
In the year of 1950 India was invited by FIFA to participate in the World Cup held in Brazil. It is quite hilarious to note that the world football governing body ready to pay for the expense of Indian Football team and invited it to play in the tournament as the Asian participants for the qualifiers Philippines, Burma and Indonesia all pulled out. But the AIFF refused to accept the invitation since FIFA had made it compulsory for the players to wear football boots during the games. Indians players used to play barefooted and believed that boots would adversely affect their team’s performance.
This was one of the biggest mistakes committed by AIFF that led the downfall of Indian football team and till date, the country has shown no success in building up a team that could at least qualify for the FIA world cup. However, out of all the odds and for the changing trends, Indian populace hopes for their team to not only qualify but also reach up to quarter finals at least.
