In an attempt to balance the expansion of the Chinese navy the Indian Navy has bought its third aircraft carrier from the soviet. The aircraft carrier has been bought for $2.3 bn and was acquired on the 10th of november. Although this deal had been finalised in 2004, its delivery was delayed due to several factors including reconditioning. India's current aircraft carrier INS VIRAAT is reaching the end of its service and its first home built aircraft carrier INS VIKRANT will only be ready by 2018.
