K R Ramaswamy popularly known as Traffic Ramaswamy, is an octogenarian social activist from Tamil Nadu , who personifies Public Interest Litigation(PIL). He unofficially started directing traffic at the city’s busy parry’s corner and thus got his nickname Traffic Ramaswamy.

Not surprisingly, he is the largest filer of PIL’s in the Chennai High Court and he’s battled everything from restoring two-way traffic on the Chennai streets, to banning motorised fish carts. Living in a state where the ministers dare to question the former chief minister (read People’s CM) J Jayalalitha, he fearlessly filed numerous PIL’s against her ranging from “construing the word amma as a reference to her” to ” withdraw all government facilities given to her after she was convicted in DA case”.

Despite losing his eyesight due to an assault by fish sellers after he obtained ban on motorised fish carts in 2002, he continues to fight garnering wrath of politicians, lawyers, local goons. He is now accompanied day and night by an armed police bodyguard. When people in his age would be leading a peaceful life after retirement, he makes use of his retirement fund to fight against crimes in the city in an unflinching manner due to his pure love for the city.
