Kalady is a famous pilgrimage destination for the people of Southern Indian as it was the birth place of Adi Shankara. It is situated on the banks of Periyar River in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. The has several temples of various Gods and Goddesses but the pilgrim visit this place mainly for the temple built in the memory of Adi Shankara. Adi Shankara was the one who discovered the Advaita Philosophy and is renowned all over the World. This place being his birth place has gained importance and have become a popular pilgrimage destination.
