Kollam (Quilon)is a popular waterfront destinations of Kerala and is the gateway to Kerala backwaters for which the state is famous for. Kollam is a popular and one of the major trading points of Kerala and hosts 2 fishing harbors namely, Neendakara and Shakthikulangara. It has been a major sea trading point since ancient times. The place is a major hub of learning and culture and this is evident from the affluent literary work Leelathilakam and Unnuneeli Sandesam. The Ashtamudi Lake is a popular tourist attraction of Kollam. Apart from this lake, there are other places that grabs tourist attention and these include Thangassery Light House,Ananda Valleswaram Temple, Mahatma Gandhi at Kochupilamoodu, Thirumullavaram Beach and Ashramam Picnic Village. Boating in the backwaters is also a popular tourist attraction.
