Lamayuru is a village hill station situated in the Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir. The village is renowned for the largest and oldest gompa in Ladakh, Kagyupa Monastery. Lamayuru is an adventure destination and on of the most coveted destinations among the trekkers and mountaineers. Yangdrung Kabgyat festival is one of the most important festivals celebrated in this village. The village is endowed with the beauty of nature and snow-capped mountains of the Great Himalayas surround this place. It is the starting point of trekking between Lamayuru and Alchi. The place has been quite popular even during the ancient times but it gained more popularity after the construction of the Lamayuru Monestry that houses about 150 Buddhist Monks. Fotu La and Namik La are a major attractions of this place.
