The expression Domestic Violence against women means any act or demeanor which has likely to injure or harm women physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and also spiritually inside the four walls of house; nevertheless such an act is not done generally by strangers. Section 32 (dd) of the Parsi Marriage Act, 1936 defines Domestic Violence. According to it, it means any act or commission or conduct which is of such a nature as to harm or has the potential to harming or injuring the health, safety or well being of the person aggrieved.
The impact of domestic violence is to be deliberate by its degree of relentlessness. It is seen that domestic violence can succumb radical and intense fallout in the form of death, despite the fact that there may be trifling blemishes and injure in some cases and in some situations there may not be any death or even the minor scars but may cause psychological disaster. Under the IPC or the Criminal Law and the Civil Law as well, certain offences are considered as domestic violence against women. Some of those offences are:
1. Dowry Death- Section 304-B IPC
2. Forceful termination of pregnancy amounts to violence at home- Sections 313-316 IPC
3. Marital Rape- Section 376-A IPC
4. Matrimonial Cruelty- Section 498-A IPC
5. Misappropriation of wife's property- Section 405 read with Section 406 IPC
6. Unlawful Confinement- Sections 339 and 340 IPC
7. Causing hurt and grievous hurt- Section 319 and Section 320.
