Madurai is a famous tourist destination of Indian and is one of the oldest cities of the sub-continent. The place is famous for its temples and is known as the "Temple city". Madurai is a place that has a rich history as it was ruled by several dynasties among which Pandyas, Cholas and Nayaks are just to name a few. The place is also known as the 'Athens of the East' as well as 'Sleepless city.' The place is also famous for festivals as well and people around the World visits this city to witness the festivals. The city is a heritage destination and some of the monuments include Goripalayam Dargah, Meenakshi-Sundreswar Temple, St. Mary’s Cathedral Church and Gandhi Museum.
