Just after independence Indian Union banned all kinds of untouchability especially the thousands of years old untouchables with Dalits. Even though harassment of Dalits in Tamil Nadu continues. But now there is some ray of hope emerging as our media is quite awake and alert in covering and propagating issues of atrocities on Dalits in Tamil Nadu. Finally good to see that media is finally realizing its responsibility towards the masses and showing the true picture of the city no matter at some places. There is always something is better than nothing.

Dalits Status In India:

Even after many years of Indian Independence, Dalits face atrocities and discrimination at upper castes' hands. Conviction rate in SC/ST prevention of Atrocities Act is around 15.71%, plus tendency is high around 85.37%. But with contrast conviction rate within IPC is above 40%.

Untouchability Still Prevails In India. Indian constitution outlawed untouchability back in 1950, yet around sixty years later, India got no success of that statutory measure. Millions of Dalits all over India accounts for 1/5th Indian population still continue to suffer. Caste based distinction often led to violence, leaving hundreds disadvantaged people in great distress, especially 1990s India.

I think this is the only way how the issue of atrocities towards dalits can be resolved. It is only media which can act between the public and government to bring out the issues. And we should be thankful to the indian media for it understand its responsibilities and is trying to solve out the problems of dalits. We should respect every caste and creed for we were born as humans.
