Meerut is the second largest army cantonment of India and the second fastest developing city of Uttar Pradesh. It is an ancient town in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is a popular tourist destination. Meerut has a rich historical past and has a mythological history behind it. The town got its name from Maya Rashtra, which used to be the capital kingdom of Ravana’s father-in-law, Mayasura. The town also has several remains of the historic town Hastinapur. Nauchandi Mela is the major tourist attraction of the town. Kali Temple, Meerut Cantonment, Helipad, Electra Fall, Dev Temple and Shakti Dham. Shri Shantinath Digamber Jain Temple at the Mohalla Teergaran is the oldest Jain temple in the region. Pandav Teela, Old Pandeshwer Temple, Teen Murti Mandir, Dhyan Kendra, Baleni, Sardhana Church, Jain Mandir Salawa, Mustafa Castle, Gillispie's Grave, Baba Manohar Nath Temple, Chandi Devi Temple, Mansa Devi Temple and Bale Miyan ki Dargah. The Fairy World, Ecological Park, Appu Ghar and Pine Children Park are some of the other attractions of Meerut.
