The Maharashtra government on Wednesday unveiled the digital design of a 300-foot statue of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji in Mumbai which would cost the state Rs 350 crore. That is rich for a state that is battling drought.

As many as 221 taalukas in 27 districts have been declared drought prone, more than 40 farmer suicides have taken place in the last three weeks and there have been reports of 3,000 child malnutrition deaths in tribal areas.

Waste of Money

Sometimes it really becomes surprising; to know that even after knowing our country problems and basic requirement. How can our so called leaders, illogically spend so much of money in building monuments or statutes, when they are so many people who are in desperate need of food, medication and have other basic requirement for their living. Where each day several deprived children are dying because of mal nutrition; where farmer are giving away their life so that their family can survive. It just seems that the government just does not want to see the real pain of India; rather they want to create a plastic look of India, which surely will look beautiful, but will be completely hollow from within.

i think the government has not spent the amount wisely. this huge amount could be used to something productive for the rural people, for example giving financial help to the farmers who have worked hard and yet not succeded. they could have been given water supply investing that huge supply. monuments can be created when there is no other better option to spend money.

it is very ironic that people are counting this just 350 crore waste on shivaji statue. atleast this has brought as some valuable and worth asset...right? but think of the black money which is lying in the accounts of politicians which is not just waste.. it is stolen from us. i think officials should bring down such people with black money and remove them from their posts and prosecute them.
