Though the process of Westernization in the beginning brought along with it a number of positive effects, but over a period it also brought many negative impacts for India as a whole. Western way of life became so attractive that it made some educated Indians to imitate the West, indiscriminately. Everything from the West was considered good and worthy of being imitated, including the Western values, customs, practices, etiquettes, tastes, choices, preferences, selection, etc. In their eagerness to imitate the West, Indians blindly picked up even the deficiencies, weaknesses, vices and evil practices of the West. In their attempt to show themselves as forward and progressive, they began ignoring and criticizing Indian cultural heritage, way of life and living. English educated Indians came more under the influence of western culture than others.. Thus, among a big number of people had developed a soft corner towards the West and a negligent and an indifferent attitude towards India. This had also hampered the development of the Spirit of Nationalism in India. But this attitude only at the later stage took the shape of a Revolution when people felt agitated and bugged of the separatist tendencies of the Britishers that oppose National union ship among the Indians. British policy consistently negatived everything that could make the Indians strong in the modern world. They had launched an open policy for keeping the Indians as weak as possible.
