There is a belief in the Indian society that the parents devote their whole of the life to the upbringing of their children, they sacrifice their shares to feed the children, they stay awake whole night to look after the children but when the parents grow older and when they need attention and care, the children overlook them and become incompetent to take care of them. The role of the parents is just incomparable and no one can replace it. But where does the lag lies in their parenting that they have to face such an indifferent attitude of their children in their old age?
In the older age they need more of affection and compassion but the adult children have no time to devote to the care of their parents and tend to feel much temperamental issues with them. And when ultimately when they feel unable to tackle the situation, the parents are sent to the old age homes sometimes with mutual understanding or sometimes forcibly and the worst cases are also being seen where some ridiculed adults left their parent/parents on the roadsides or railway station without their knowledge. This is really extremely sad. The adults deliberately need to change their mentality if so much of indifference and carelessness persist into their minds for their parents.
Parents had given their lives to make the life of their children and now how could the children spoil their lives as if it matters nothing to them. The real picture of the old age homes is very sorrowful. Parents are not at all happy while in those homes, some have tried harder to accept the reality and some keep waiting for their careless children to come back to take their parents back to home. This is the degraded scenario of the Indian society that needs our attention and efforts. We Indians cannot be so rude towards our parents. We can never repay them for their sacrifices and efforts they had put in for us, but yes! We can be truthful and grateful to them at least not by sending them to old age homes and giving some time to them out of our busy schedules.
