Pondicherry or Puducherry is the capital of the Union Territory of Pondicherry and has mythological significance. This place is also believed to be the vicinity of the revered sage, Saint Agasthya. Pondicherry also has a rich historical past as it was under the rule of various dynasties like the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Pandyas. Pondicherry was also ruled by the French and this is prominent from the French culture still present in the place. The place is popular for its beaches as well as many historical monuments as ashrams.
