More and more married couples in India are walking away from their marriages in the recent years. This trend in not only apparent in metropolises but it is seen in smaller cities and semi-urban cities as well. Delhi leads the way registering about 9,000 cases each year. Kolkata and Chennai have also recorded a rise of 200% in divorce rates. What are the main reasons of the increase in the divorce rates? Is it the working of women and men both ? Or what else?

The trend of divorce is increasing in India and there are several reasons for the increase in divorce rate. One of the main reason for divorce is the ego that comes in between a relationship. Today, divorce have become so common that people have stopped valuing marriages and for very petty reasons file petition for divorce. It is also due to the increasing intolerance and yes independence is another reason for divorce as women can sustain themselves well.
According to me the rise that has been witnessed in the rate of divorces today is because it has become easier and women who are divorced are no longer looked down by the society. Moreover, women are becoming independent and are capable of sustaining themselves without the help of any one. In earlier times, divorce was a great deal and people feared the society and they compromised even with the wrong things that were happening to them but now the case is not the same and this is the reason for the increasing trend of divorces.

In the past, women would remain silent about any kind of abuse that they would face from their husbands. They were told to compromise. However, today women have started to NOT TO TOLERATE such abuse.
Women can sustain themselves and are getting education. If the issues cannot be resolved with their husbands, they think that it is better to walk away and so should it be. Happiness in life is important!
