Amidst rising security concerns, a company claims to have developed a bomb disposal robot which can help in detecting and defusing bombs.
Christened as 'Robot Caliber', the gadget consists of two arms, one of which is a claw to lift objects and other tools and the other arm having twin disruptors, which are used to dispose off bombs or IEDs, the robot's manufacturer Precision Operations Systems said in a statement.
It could also be fitted with a semi-automatic weapon and and two audio and video communication systems, which could play a pivotal role during hostage crisis or negotiations, it said.
The unique gadget is equipped with special night vision cameras to work in the dark. Stairs are also not a hurdle for this machine as removable track system helps it in climbing up stairs.
The newly-developed Robot, capable of working in harsh environmental conditions including sand, mud and snow will have to undergo certain tests before it begins to be used by the security agencies in the country, an official of Delhi Police said.
One of its best features is that it can be controlled from a wireless command and control unit from a distance of a kilometre," the release said.
The Robot Caliber will be launched at International fire and security exhibition (IFSEC India 2008) to be held between October 16-18 here.
