Children are always the reflection of their parent's personality because they simply imitate their parents in the early phases of childhood and in the later stage build up/conceive their ideologies highly and entirely influenced by the ideologies of the parents. (however, a child also possess his/her unique personality) Childhood is the stage where a child is learning and grasping the things very quickly thus this is also the stage where he/she "must" be introduced to the best elements and ideas related to life and its aspects. Most often parents do complaint that their child behaves selfishly and doesn't enjoy sharing and kindling. But in reality the fault is not with the kid but with the attitudes of the parents and elders of the family; the child has been observing so far. I do not intend to say that the parents willingly show selfishness but there are many a times we all behave in a careless and self centered manner that leads the child to make up his mind for some particualr actions. Parents should be cautious and moreover free their minds from all kinds of differences and prejudices, because then only they would be able to "show a selfless attitude" in front of their children. What they do, the child will simply follow. Selflessness can better be shown in order to imbibe it into the mind of the child else it will only remain a concept rather becoming a trait of his/her personality.
