He is courageous enough to raise his voice against social taboos and issues, most crucial ones have already been raised by him, he leads like a leader and have the guts to inspire the public for any longest March or Rally against Female Foeticide and Gender Inequality. He has been highly persevarant and wants to bring a tremendous changes and elevation in the standards and status of the Indian women. He is Shafiq Ur Rahman Khan who wants to empower the people and has founded the mission ‘Empower People’. Since his childhood he has been very straightforward and enthusiastic he actively stood upright for the education rights of Dalit children and other excluded communities in Gaya in Bihar. Shafiq had always a soft corner for the deprived and poor people who adopt unethical acts in order to earn some money for the survival of the family. He is a true social worker who wants to serve the society at his best and wants to eradicate poverty, crimes and violence against women and children. He has recently been honoured with the Amazing Indian Award by The Time for his persistent endeavours and courage to fight single-mindedly for rescuing young girls who become the prey of bride trafficking.
Shafiq decided to launch an organization along with his teenage friends to serve the Dalit for their livelihood and education long back in 1999 and they even did it while expanding their vision in 23 blocks of Gaya and other nearby cities. But a group of naxalites was unhappy with them so they had to shift to Delhi. Somehow, Shafiq managed to establish Empower People in 2005 as an active campaign against Gender Inequality. Later that, he and his team managed to organize many significant activities under their campaign like rallies, march against bride trafficking, awareness programmes and campaigns with the collaboration of Government, Ngos, and NPOs officials. Empower People tries to inspire the community to participate in the campaigns, it seeks the participation, help and support of the people of the society and feels that; without people its work is just impossible.
This organization is constantly working for sensitizing the criminal activities against young girls and brides for which it organizes many workshops and other promotional activities also. Shafiq throws light upon the ignorance of the Indian people about bride trafficking; he tells that states like Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Kerala are the hub for International bride traffickers where as poor Indian states like West Bengal, Bihar and Assam faces the problem of domestic bride traffickers. He further says that society needs a whole lot of awareness today then only they can uproot such social evils, the best part of Shafiq’s organization is that it not only rescues the innocent brides from trafficking but also provides them skill training and assistance so that they can become independent and self-sufficient. Shafiq is a complete supporter of women empowerment and believes that women are definitely a significant role player in the society. Till the crimes, violence is continued against the women the country cannot grow ever.
