Simhachalam is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage destination of Andhra Pradesh and falls in the Visakhapatnam district. The town has a rich history associated with it and was ruled by several Hindu dynasty. The place was also under the reign of Ashoka and was a part of the Kalinga district.
