Siv Ram Rajguru was a great revolutionary who was contemporary of Bhagat Singh and many other Indian revolutionaries who fought for the freedom of India selflessly. He was born in a middle-class Hindu Brahmin family at Khed in Poona district on 24th March, 1908. He went to Varanasi to study Sanskrit at a very early age and read Hindu religious scriptures.
While in Varanasi, he came in contact with several Indian revolutionaries and was inspired by them. Owing to the inspiration of the revolutionary ideas as well as the on going freedom struggle of India, Rajguru actively participated in the freedom movement. He then joined the Hindustan Social Republican Association and soon became an active member of the group. Rajgur was courageous and has determined spirit and this made him a great revolutionary of India. For Rajguru, the nation was supreme and no sacrifice according to him was as great as the sacrifice for the motherland and this thought made him fight selflessly for the freedom of the nation. Rajgur was actively carried out the revolutionary activities in the State of U.P and Punjab and was also called the gunman of the party.
In the year 1928, when the Simon Commission arrived India, he actively took part in the black flag demonstration led by Lala Lajpat Rai. This protest led to a despicable offense and lathicharge took place, where Lala Lajpat Rai suffered serious injuries and latter succumbed to death. Owing to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai, he along with his comrades, Bhagat Singh and Chandrasekhar Azad, planned to kill Mr. Scott, who was believed to be responsible for the whole episode, which led to the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. On 17 December 1928 while attempting to kill Scott, they shot at Saunders, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and he was killed. Soon after this incident, all of them fled from the place and dispersed to various places and still carried out their mission. Their sole motive was to establish a social republic nation and free India from the British Colonial rule. However, on 30th Septemeber 1929, after the bombing at the Central Legislative Assemble, Rajguru was arrested by the British Cops in Poona.
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukdev were awarded death sentence by the British Government owing to various incidents that took place during that time. Although, huge processions were taken out as a protest against the death sentence given to the trio and appeal was made by the leaders of the National Congress Party as well as Mahatma Gandhi to the British Government to have mercy but everything failed. The trio was hanged on 23rd March 1931in the Lahore Jail. The execution of the young revolutionaries had disturbed the whole nation and it was deemed as a great loss for India’s freedom struggle. The execution was considered by the National Congress as an act of wanton vengeance and is an intentional pompous of the undisputed demand of the nation for commutation. Nevertheless, they are still remembered by the people of India for their sacrifices for the nation.
The contribution of Rajguru towards India’s freedom movement is incomparable and he was a Nationalist in the true sense. He proved his selfless love for his motherland by sacrificing his life for it and every Indian should remember him with great respect and inculcate in them the feeling of Nationalism.
