Akshardham temple is one of the beautiful and remarkable temples in Delhi and in fact it has been one of the largest Hindu temple complexes in India. This temple is a unique creation and depiction of India and Hindu culture, architecture, spirituality and particularly the life incidences of Saint Swaminarayan. It is situated on the bank of the River Yamuna and was officially inaugurated on November 6th 2005. This temple happens to be a most perfectly built building while following the guidelines of Vastu Shastra and Pancha Shastra. It is believed that the purpose of constructing this temple was to display the foundation of Indian culture and history. The building of this temple was administered by Bochasanswi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swanimaryan Sanstha with the persistent help and support of 3000 volunteers and 7000 Indian artisans. The walls of the temples depict historical and mythological incidents and about 20,000 sculptures of Hindu deities and mythological characters.

The statue fixed at the centre of the temple is about 141 ft high, 370 ft long and 316 ft wide, it is also a fact that before initiating the work for this temple many middle age architecture of famous historical temples Meenaxi temple, Konarak, Lingraja, Jagganath and Ankorvat were deeply observed. The stone used in the construction of the temple are Rajasthan Pink Sandstone and Italian Canarra Marble Stone. The whole premise of Akshardham temple has different unique spots to see which all together make this temple so attractive for the visitors and tourists from other countries such as Garden of India that consist of various shrubs, plants and flowers and also has bronze made sculptures of different historical personalities, warriors, freedom fighters, saints and philosophers. Sanskruti Vihar consists of a boat ride that displays the ancient civilization of India, ancient universities, markets and the ancient Indian culture.

There is a Theatre as well inside the complex where various documentaries are shown to the visitors to show them the ancient Indian culture and civilization. A special documentary based on the real life journey of Swami Narayana (the founder of the organization) is also shown to the audience. Besides that documentaries based on mystic India, Vedic civilization and reincarnation are also been shown in the theatre. One of the beautiful spots to see in the complex is the Musical fountain show that depicts various philosophies of life cycle, enlightment in life, Hindu principles and beliefs by only using the music. Akshardham temple has also been awarded and certified as the “The Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple” in the Indian subcontinent, by the Guinness Book of World Records.
