Mountaineering at Manali: The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering at Manali regularly organizes an expedition to nearby peaks which call for climbers from all over the world. Five peaks in the area are over 5600m (18,500ft) high.

Trekking: the best time throughout Himachal is in summer (May-June) before the rains arrive. High altitude trekking from July to September in the Rohtang pass, then north into Lahaul, Zanskar and on to Leh.

River Rafting: In Sutlej, Beas and Chenab rivers, Shamshi (Kullu), Tattapani and Rampur.

Skiing: January to March at Manali and Narkanda and as late as May in Rohtang Pass.

Angling for trout at Rohru, Sangla, Katrain and Barot.

Hang gliding and Paragliding at a place called 'Billing', one of the finest sites in the world, in the Kangra Valley. It hosts an International festival too.
