Indian women have always faced so many biases and differences in each phase and aspect of their lives. Their Roles have always been limited and very particular, in fact it is the society that has preconceived the suitable roles for its women. Traditionally Indian women were never encouraged for sports in India, it was only the men who have been motivated to participate in sports and have been sports oriented. Indian women have always been encouraged to learn home chores, good values and manners but never taught to hold the bat and hit the ball. Gender biases of the society never let the women come out of the four walls of the house and their little world of dolls. Ironically even the media and Indian cinema also portray the women as only 'Sita', 'Devi', or rather 'Chameli' but rarely has portrayed her as a sports person or the one who is able to perform tough/masculine tasks. It is basically the deep rooted mentality of the people that does not let them to believe the women to be strong enough for sports. And fortunately the women who do take part in sports; face scarcity of women coaches and sponsors. But this is genuinely the time for the society to change its attitudes towards the women’s participation in sports. At the family level girls should be encouraged to make full participation in sports along with their academic education. The media also needs to portray the women with sport spirit. The society needs to realize the fact that women also possess team spirit, sports spirit, enthusiasm, leadership qualities besides being the best family care takers.
