Jain Glass Temple
A popular tourist attraction of Kanpur, Jain Glass Temple is a place of worship for devotees belonging to the Jain religious community. Constructed in the old traditional architectural style, this temple is adorned with glass and mirror work. The temple features marble floor, decorated ceilings and ornamental arches. The display of murals made of stained glass is the highlight of the temple. These murals are beautifully carved and narrate the teachings of the Jain scriptures. The temple is enshrined with the statues of Lord Mahavira along with the 23 Jain Tirthankaras on a huge foundation.
Phool Bagh
Phool Bagh is a beautiful park, which is located in the heart of Kanpur District, close to Kanpur Central Railway Station. Established in 1999, this urban city park houses a Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial. Popularly known as Ganesh Vidyarthi Udyan, this park has been the location for many public meetings and political rallies in Kanpur. During the British rule in India, this park was known as Queen Victoria Garden.
Allen Forest Zoo
Situated about 2 km from the Kanpur city centre, Allen Forest Zoo is popularly known as, Kanpur Zoo. This zoo is the largest open green space in Kanpur and is home to mammals like White Asian tigers, rhinoceros, Asiatic lions, cheetah, hyena, leopard, black bear, grizzly bear, sloth bear, monkeys, langoor and jaguar. The main attraction of the zoo is the botanical garden, which holds the collection of some of the rare species of plants. Rainwater Lake, aviary and night house are other major attractions of this zoo. It also features an aquarium and life size sculptures of pre-historic dinosaurs. Tourist Nature walks and outdoor recreation activities can be enjoyed at this zoo. The zoo is also an educational site for teaching school students about environmental issues and natural habitats.
Kanpur Memorial Church
Popularly known as the All soul's cathedral, Kanpur Memorial Church was built in the year 1857 in memory of the British who lost their lives in Sepoy Mutiny. An architect of east Bengal Railway named Walter Granville designed this church which reflects the Lombardic Gothic style of architecture. The eastern part of the church complex houses a memorial garden, which can be approached through two gateways. The church is carved in Gothic style by the famous artist Henry Yule. In the heart of the church, beautifully carved figure of an angel has been installed. This sculpture has been designed by Baron Carlo Marochetti. The angel is shown with crossed arms holding symbol of peace.
Shri Radhakrishna Temple
Another most popular tourist attraction of Kanpur is the Shri Radhakrishna temple. Popularly known as JK Temple, was built by the J.K Trust and the architecture of this temple reflects a unification of ancient and modern style. The temple houses five shrines, out of which the central shrine is dedicated to Lord Radhakrishna and other of the four shrines are enshrined with the deities of Lord Ardhnareswara, Lord Lakshminarayana, Lord Narmadeshwar and Lord Hanuman.
