Mathura, a city situated on the western embankment of River Yamuna, which falls in the state of Uttar Pradesh was the birth place of the Hindu deity, Lord Krishna. Owing to this, the city has several temples and is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations of India. Besides being one of the major Hindu pilgrimages of India, the city displays a secular culture. Matura is one of the ancient cities of the country and finds its mention in the great Indian Epics, Mahabharata and Ramayana. It also finds its mention in the Bhagavata Purana, according to which Mathura was the capital of Surasena Kingdom, ruled by Kansa the maternal uncle of Shri Krishna. Ghats

Mathura has about twenty five tranquil ghats, and each of the ghats has some connection with Lord Krishna. It is predictable that all the devotees should visit the twenty five ghats to end their pilgrimage in Mathura. The ghats towards the north are known as Vishram Ghats and the ghats towards the south are called as Moksha ghats. According to the mythology and the belief of the people, a holy dip in the water along with it performance of rituals and pujas help the devotees to attain mokhsa and get rid from the cycle of birth and death.

Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple

One of the most prominent attractions of the city, Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple was built during the 10[SUP]th[/SUP] century but has undergone several demolitions by the Muslim invaders. The preponderance of this temple over other holy places is due to the belief that the temple stands on the site where lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudev. The massive and splendid structure of the temple attracts the travelers and the pilgrims to the place. This is one of the most revered places of the city.

Government Muesum

Another popular attraction of the city is the Governmnt Museum, is situated in the Dampier Park. Also known as Mathura Museum puts on display relics of Gupta and Kushan period ranging from 400 B.C. to 1200 A.D. It also showcases a collection of sculptures from Mathura School. The place is a delight for archeologists and also houses a collection of stone sculptures, terracotta, gold, silver, copper coins along with bronze sculptures, clay seals and ancient paintings, which lures the visitors. The Museum building itself is a piece of art, which is made of red sandstone and has an octagonal shape. In addition, the museum also houses statues of Kanishka, Lord Buddha besides the cenotaph of Sunga period.

Mathura is the Place where Krishnaji was born and Brought up.
I am attached with Krishna Bhagwan on my Trip to Agra i will definitely go to Mathura
 
The ethos of Mathura, and in fact the whole of Braj mandal is centered on Krishna and his tales. Mathura is the best holy place where different activities during the major festivities are dedicated to Lord Krishna. Few famous places to visit are kesava deo temple, sati burj, katra masjid and archeological museum. many tourists and pilgrims visit this ancient city which is full of different sculptures. especially the archeologists can find their different information from the government meseum situated in dampier park.
