Imphal is one quaint little city situated amidst the beautiful scenery that consist of crystal clear lakes and rivers along with lush green hills to protect the city from all of the directions against any enemy. Imphal is the dwelling place of the king of Manipur and hence it is considered to be the capital of Manipur since the year of 1826. Not much is known about the history behind the bloody battles, which had left some obnoxious scars on the face of this beautiful land except for one that was fought in the backdrop of the World War II, between Japan and Britain. After loosing to the British in the battles of Kohima and Imphal, the Japanese had almost lost all hopes of being the dominant force in Asia.
I particularly remember some very important tourist sites in this region. Most of the places of interest in this region often echo the presence of the British in the Indian lands for 200 years. Most of the tourist places are either museums, or heritage places. There are also some important religious places here in Imphal. I also remember some animal parks, which I particularly found very interesting to visit, since I am not a person who is fond of history.
If you are not planning to take your family out for any historical sight seeing intentions, then I might help you out a bit. You can always take a hired car to the Manipur Zoological garden, which is not far from the city of Imphal. At a distance of 5 kms from Imphal, the Zoo would serve the purpose of a fun filled vacation for your children. The zoo also has some good restaurants nearby where you can sit and relax from your long trip and then plan your next visit. The Zoo is considered to be the largest one in Manipur and is the centre of immense tourist attraction.
Just near to this place is the Royal palace of Kangla. The royal palace at Kangla can also be another option for sight seeing if you are interested in having a closer look at the royal palace situated in this region. This place had been the ancient capital of Manipur since the year of 1893 and has always been one of the major sites of political and historical significance. After the capture of Chinese prisoners by the king of Kangla, the builders acquired skill from them and soon turned the city into a walled fortress that is still on display to the tourists who visit this place.
