So much has been changed in the Indian society; its patterns, functioning, ideologies of the people including the traditional customs as well. Only very few people or groups are found today to properly follow the old traditional customs, perhaps others find them to be old fashioned, orthodox, outdated, wastage of time and energy, or may be promoting Communalism? However, traditional customs have their own significance, at least they had it in the ancient Indian society when these customs used to bring the people together, they used to emerge the unity and feelings of joy between each other. But in the contemporary society they seem to have lost their significance and adequacy. The new generation hardly finds any profoundness in the traditional customs, there have been numerous of tradition and custom in the Indian society which have always played an important role in accomplishing and performing many activities and ceremonies . Right from the birth ceremony customs, to the wedding and funeral customs, Indian society possesses a galore of tradition. But who is bothered to follow them in today’s time and with how much devotion? In fact the people living in the urban areas and so called contemporary society are actually showing their back to those customs. There has been a drastic change in the mentality and perceptions of the people due to which the traditional customs no longer seem to be productive to them.
