To visit any place outside your nation a visa is required. Similarly a visa is also required in order to visit India. The Government of India has made some changes to the types of visas that are issued. Some new restrictions have been imposed for Tourist visas and X (Entry) Visas. The new types of Visas are:
Tourist Visa: Anyone who wants to visit India as tourist needs to get a Tourist Visa which is generally valid for 6 months depending on the nationality of the applicant. According to the new restriction that has been imposed, any Tourist who has Indian tourist visa must now have two month gap between visits to India.
X (Entry) Visa: X (Entry) Visa is issued to those who does not fall into any of the other categories of visa applicants such as volunteers. However, now it is available only to a foreigner of Indian origin, spouse and children of a foreigner of Indian origin or Indian citizen and spouse and dependent children of a foreigner coming to India on any other long term visa, such as an
Employment visa or Business visa.
Employment Visa: It is issued to foreigners working in India for any Indian organization. Employment visas are generally granted for one year, or the term of the contract, which can be extended in India.
Student Visa: It is issued to those who want to come to India to study in some recognized educational institutes. Student visas are issued for up to five years, depending on the duration of the course, which can be extended.
Business Visa: It is issued to those who desire to carryout business in India as well as explore the opportunities.
Conference Visa: It is issued to delegates who covet to attend a conference in India that is conducted by an Indian government organization.
Journalist Visa: It is issued to journalist, photographers and film makers who wants to make film or documentary in India.
Research Visa: It is issued to the professors and scholars who want to carry out research work in India. It comes with lots of restrictions and is one of the most difficult visas to get.
Medical Visa: It is issued to those undergoing medical treatment in India at recognized and specialized hospitals, and treatment centers.
Transit Visa: It is issued to those visitors who lives in India for less than 72 hours otherwise a Tourist Visa is required.
