Vishwakarma Puja is a Hindu festival, which is celebrated to worship the divine architect Vishwakarma. He was the son of Lord Brahma, who drafted the universe and was the builder of God’s palaces. He was also the designer of every weapon that is used by all Gods along with the flying chariot. He is considered to be the fourteenth most valuable thing that was born out of the Samudra Manthan.

Vishwakarma was the architect of the historical city of Dwarka, which once submerged into the Arabian Sea and a part of it evolved some years back. According to mythology, Vishwakarma was the one who made Goddess Durga with the demand the Gods who was tortured by the demon Mahishasura. Mahishasura got the blessings from Brahma that he cannot be killed by any man and his life was put inside a buffalo from which he got his name. Owing to his torture on Gods and after he captured the Heaven, they prayed to the Trinity to save them and as a result of it Goddess Durga, who is an incarnation of Adi-shakti was created by Vishwakarma and Shiva breathed life to the figure. The great Indian epic describes this God of architecture and engineers as the executor of numerous handicrafts, the carpenter of the gods, the most renowned of artisans, the fashioner of all ornaments and a great and immortal god. He has four hands, wears a crown, lots of gold jewellery and holds a water-pot, a book, a bridle and craftsman's tools in his hands.

Hindus widely consider Vishwakarma as the god of architecture and engineering, and every year on September 16 or 17 Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated with great enthusiasm. It is a pledge time for workers and craftsmen to boost their production and achieve celestial encouragement for creating original products. This puja usually takes place within the factory premises or shop floors and the otherwise humdrum workshops come alive with celebration. On this occasion there is jaunty custom of flying kites in many places. This occasion also marks the start of the festive season that starts with Durga Puja. After this day, the craftsmen start making the idol of the Goddess and finish it just before the Durga Puja.
