What Independence means to the Indian Youth

Independence symbolizes the freedom of mind, in beliefs and felt in the heart. It's been 66 years of Independence now and the people of India still continue to redefine and emerge the true essence of the freedom for themselves. With every passing year it becomes an introspect for them to explore the meaning and sources of independence in the free India. Independence at least has made the Indians to reconnect with their nation in a better way that is solely their own, based on their own devotion, love and regards to their country. The Indian youth of today keeps a few complex views about their independence. For some, it means the full freedom of choices and actions and means a lot to them, and for some independence means nothing, they have somewhere become habitual to the term ‘independence’ since they find it just so essential for their lives. While some feel proud to be a part of an independent country to which they can attach their nationality and patriotic feelings, they feel blessed to experience that independence that had been achieved by the forefathers and great leaders/fighters. And yet there is a section of youth that truly believe that no matter we are independent and free but still our minds are completely overwhelmed and being slaves of western culture, they feel that their mindsets are still being dependent and influenced by the British ways and patterns that hinders our true freedom of mind and soul.

The youth of today is realizing that somewhere they need to redefine the meaning of independence/freedom for themselves. They cannot be contradictory while supporting democracy and calling themselves proud Indians on the one hand and on the other, getting ruled by the external factors. The youth wants to be free and not confined, they want to be heard, they want to contribute to the growth of the nation, they want to show their devotion but which is not being forced.

What do you have to say in this regard; being a Proud and Independent Indian?
